At the concert, attended by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his wife Victoria, the audience stood and paid tribute to those lost in conflicts as the royals entered the hall. King Charles III also graced the event, preparing for Remembrance Sunday, where he will lead the nation in a two-minute silence at the annual National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in central London. The ceremony will see senior royals and political leaders laying wreaths in honor of those who served.
The Festival of Remembrance featured the Royal Family applauding the Chelsea Pensioners as they entered the auditorium, accompanied by an orchestra performance. Notably, Prince Charles was absent as he was returning from Brazil, having spoken at the COP30 UN climate change summit and visited a remote island. The event, hosted by actress Hannah Waddingham, included musical performances by artists such as Sir Rod Stewart and Sam Ryder, with armed forces bands joining in to perform military music throughout the evening.
Various veterans attended the event, including D-Day planners and former prisoners of war, along with members of the LGBTQ+ veterans charity Fighting With Pride. The occasion also marked the King’s recent engagement in support of the LGBTQ+ community, as he unveiled a memorial honoring LGBT military personnel.
