Tottenham Football Club has expressed their support for Destiny Udogie following a disturbing incident involving the Italian defender being threatened with a gun by a football agent. The incident, which took place on 6 September in London, also reportedly involved another individual being blackmailed and threatened by the same agent. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The Metropolitan police have confirmed that a 31-year-old man was arrested on 8 September on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail, and driving without a licence. He has since been released on bail while investigations are ongoing. In response to the situation, Spurs released a statement on Tuesday, stating that they have been providing support to Udogie and his family since the incident occurred. Due to the legal nature of the case, the club refrained from making any further comments.
Destiny Udogie, 22, signed with Tottenham from Udinese for £15m in 2022 and subsequently went back to the Serie A club on a season-long loan. He returned to Tottenham at the beginning of the 2023-24 season and has been a key player for the team, making 76 appearances thus far. Notably, Udogie featured in the recent 4-0 victory against Copenhagen in the Champions League, marking his 10th appearance of the season.
