Strictly's Amy Dowden to undergo 'another mastectomy'

Amy Dowden, a contestant on the popular show Strictly Come Dancing, recently shared with her followers that she will be undergoing another mastectomy this week. The 35-year-old clarified that this surgery is not due to a new cancer diagnosis but rather a decision made after consulting with her medical team. She expressed her desire to be transparent and open about her health journey, ensuring her supporters are aware of the situation.

Taking to Instagram, Amy posted a video of herself petting her dog while sharing the news. She mentioned that her medical team is optimistic about her recovery process and anticipates a smooth healing journey. Despite not being able to participate as much in the show, she conveyed her excitement about reuniting with her Strictly family once she has fully recuperated.

Amy Dowden disclosed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 after discovering a lump in April, just before embarking on a honeymoon with her husband, Ben Jones. Following her diagnosis, she underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, which prevented her from competing in the previous season of Strictly Come Dancing. In February 2024, she announced that her latest health check revealed no evidence of disease, allowing her to return to the dance floor with a new partner.

The dancer’s resilience and determination have been highlighted in BBC documentaries such as “Strictly Amy: Cancer And Me” and “Strictly Amy: Crohn’s And Me,” where she documented her cancer treatment and battle with Crohn’s disease. Earlier in the year, Amy was recognized for her contributions to fundraising and raising awareness of inflammatory bowel disease by being appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Despite facing setbacks, Amy continues to inspire others with her strength and perseverance
