City council chosen as one of 12 local authorities to receive part of £8m youth transformation fund

Liverpool City Council has recently been selected as one of the 12 local authorities nationwide to benefit from an £8 million government fund dedicated to enhancing youth service provision in the city. As a result, the city council has successfully secured a grant of over half a million pounds (£546,161) from the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) to implement the Local Youth Transformation Pilot (LYTP).

The LYTP initiative will involve the establishment of a “Youth Assembly” in Liverpool to provide a platform for young people to voice their opinions and ideas, pursue youth work qualifications, and collaborate with the council and youth providers to create a Youth Offer Plan for the city. The primary objective of the LYTP is to develop sustainable, high-quality youth services that cater to the needs of young individuals, with the pilot phase set to run until August 31, 2026.

In addition to the LYTP funding, an extra £550,000 per year has been earmarked from the city council’s Public Health budget to expand youth work accessibility throughout Liverpool. This financial injection follows the success of 15 projects funded by Public Health during the summer holidays which facilitated the delivery of 1500 hours of youth work.

Youth work providers are encouraged to apply for grants from this funding pool to carry out targeted youth projects. To kick off the grant program and provide more details to potential providers, the city council will host a special event on Friday, November 7, from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Banquet Suite, Cunard Building, Liverpool L3 1AH. Interested parties must register their attendance by completing an online form by Wednesday, November 5. For additional event information, attendees can reach out to simon.bell@liverpool.gov.uk
