Pornhub has reported a substantial drop in the number of UK visitors to its site, with a 77% decrease compared to July, following the implementation of stricter age verification checks under the Online Safety Act. The company believes that sites that are not complying with the new regulations are now experiencing increased traffic. While the BBC has not independently confirmed Pornhub’s claims, data from Google indicates that searches for the site have declined by almost half since the law went into effect. This decline may be attributed to a reduction in overall porn usage, or individuals resorting to alternative methods such as VPNs to access the site while masking their location.

While some pornographic sites have experienced significant traffic growth by disregarding the regulations, Ofcom maintains that non-compliant sites risking children’s safety will face enforcement actions. The government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children online, labeling it a top priority for ministers.
During discussions with UK officials, Aylo suggested that age verification checks be conducted at the device level rather than by individual websites, an approach aimed at creating a level playing field for all platforms. While opinions differ on the most effective method of age assurance, cybersecurity experts emphasize the importance of implementing multiple layers of control to ensure online safety for users
