Liverpool City Council takes control of essential services

Liverpool City Council is set to take over key frontline services, such as waste collection, street cleansing, and parks maintenance, starting tomorrow. Previously managed by Liverpool Streetscene Services Ltd. (LSSL), these essential services will now be under the direct control of the council. This strategic move demonstrates the council’s commitment to creating a cleaner and greener city for its residents.

With this transition, approximately 700 staff members from LSSL will be brought in-house by the council. This decision was made following a residents’ survey where the importance of maintaining cleanliness in Liverpool was highlighted. Council Leader, Councillor Liam Robinson, emphasized the significance of listening to residents’ feedback and addressing their concerns. By integrating LSSL staff into the council, there is an opportunity to enhance services and drive innovation for the benefit of the community.

Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods, and Streetscene, expressed optimism about the move towards insourcing these services. This change signifies a positive step forward for the city, enabling the council to better support frontline teams and invest in services that align with residents’ priorities. By taking direct control of these vital services, Liverpool City Council aims to strengthen its ability to deliver the improvements desired by the community
