Asylum seeker Deng Majek guilty of Rhiannon Whyte murder in Walsall

In West Midlands, an asylum seeker has been convicted of brutally murdering a hotel worker at a railway station in Walsall. Rhiannon Whyte, a 27-year-old employee at the asylum hotel, was stabbed 23 times with a screwdriver by Deng Chol Majek, who denied the charges against him. The incident occurred at Bescot Stadium station in October 2024, leading to the tragic death of Ms. Whyte three days later. CCTV footage captured Majek following the victim to the station before absconding from the scene.

The killer, originally from Sudan, had been residing at the Park Inn Hotel where Ms. Whyte worked. Employees had reported that Majek exhibited disturbing behavior towards her and other colleagues, described as “scary” and “spooky”. Despite the overwhelming evidence presented in court, including DNA proof linking him to the crime, Majek vehemently denied his involvement in the murder. The motive behind the ruthless attack on Ms. Whyte remains unknown, leaving the court puzzled about the perpetrator’s intentions.

Following a two-week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, the jury swiftly delivered a guilty verdict against Majek. Despite the lack of remorse shown by the assailant, Ms. Whyte’s family expressed their anguish and loss over the tragic incident. Her sister, Alexandra, who is now caring for Ms. Whyte’s young son, emphasized the irreplaceable void left by Majek’s actions. Moving forward, the family aims to seek justice and promote change in honor of the deceased victim
