An individual previously employed as a teacher who faces allegations of historical sexual abuse in Scotland has been apprehended in South Africa on an additional 90 charges. Iain Wares, aged 86, has been accused of misconduct by numerous former students of Edinburgh Academy and Fettes College, institutions where he taught during the 1960s and 70s. Currently residing in Cape Town, Mr. Wares was granted permission for extradition on three charges to return to Scotland, though this process was postponed as British authorities sought to level more accusations against him.

According to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) in Scotland, Mr. Wares is confronted with a total of 74 charges. Notable personalities like BBC presenter Nicky Campbell have also come forward with accusations against the former educator.
In 2018, authorities initially sought his extradition, leading to his apprehension in May 2019 on seven counts related to improper behavior. Furthermore, there is an ongoing local trial in Cape Town against Mr. Wares, prompted by allegations from a former student in South Africa. Released on bail, a court hearing is scheduled to commence on 20 November. The allegations against Mr. Wares have sparked widespread attention and raised significant concerns about the safeguarding of students in educational institutions
