Mother of Baby P begins latest bid for release

Tracey Connelly, the mother of Baby P, has once again found herself in the spotlight due to her parole hearing after being recalled to prison for breaching her license conditions. The parole hearing revealed that she was sent back to prison after starting a relationship with a man she met online without notifying the officials supervising her.

Connelly’s tragic story dates back to 2007 when her 17-month-old son, Peter, known as Baby P, tragically passed away due to severe abuse, despite being on the at-risk register and receiving numerous visits from social workers, police officers, and health professionals. Connelly was first convicted in 2009 for causing or allowing the death of Baby P and was sentenced to imprisonment for public protection with a minimum term of five years.

During the recent parole hearing, it was highlighted that Connelly had failed to inform social services about individuals living with her after her partner and his brother moved into the home. Further concerns were raised about her tendency to prioritize intimate relationships over the needs of children, as evidenced by her history of developing such relationships during her time in custody.

Connelly’s parole bid has faced several rejections in the past, with previous attempts in 2015, 2017, and 2019 all being turned down. The parole panel is now considering various options, including her release or potential transfer to an open prison. Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding Baby P’s death, Connelly remains hopeful of securing her freedom with the support of a management plan upon her release
