A tragic incident occurred in north London on Christmas Day in 2022, resulting in the death of Maria Carolina Do Nascimento, a 22-year-old woman. Evan Forde, a 32-year-old man from Bedford, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for causing her death in a high-speed car crash on Hendon Way, Brent Cross. The collision, which occurred at approximately 03:45 GMT, involved Forde driving at speeds of up to 140mph before crashing into the back of a BMW in which Ms. Nascimento was a passenger.
During the sentencing at the Old Bailey, Judge Philip Katz KC criticized Forde for his lack of remorse and empathy towards Ms. Do Nascimento’s family and friends. The prosecutor, Frederick Hookway, highlighted Forde’s previous criminal record, which included 10 convictions for 14 offenses, including dangerous driving.
Forde had pleaded guilty to causing the death of Ms. Do Nascimento by dangerous driving, with his defense attorney, Tasmin Malcolm, expressing his client’s genuine remorse for the tragic incident. Surveillance footage and phone videos from Forde’s car revealed his presence at a nightclub in Camden before the collision, shedding light on his erratic behavior leading up to the fatal crash. On the other hand, a victim impact statement from Ms. Do Nascimento’s family described her as a compassionate individual with a generous heart, whose untimely death left a void in their lives that can never be filled
