Met Police to look into claims Prince Andrew sought information on accuser

The Metropolitan Police is currently investigating reports suggesting that Prince Andrew attempted to access personal information about his accuser, Virginia Giuffre, through his police protection. The force confirmed on Sunday that they are actively looking into the claims made in the media. Virginia Giuffre, who tragically passed away earlier this year, had alleged that she was one of the girls exploited by Jeffrey Epstein and his wealthy circle of associates.

Allegations from Ms. Giuffre also included claims that she was coerced into having sexual encounters with Prince Andrew on three separate occasions, including one incident when she was 17 years old at the residence of Ghislaine Maxwell in London back in 2001. The Mail on Sunday reported that Prince Andrew had instructed his police protection officer to investigate Giuffre just before the publication of a photograph of their first meeting in 2011. Additionally, the Sunday Telegraph revealed that Andrew had tried to gather detrimental information on Ms. Giuffre.

On the subject, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband expressed deep concern over the situation, stating that the use of close protection officers in such a manner is highly inappropriate if true. Prince Andrew recently made headlines after announcing his voluntary withdrawal from his titles, including renouncing his membership in the Order of the Garter, the oldest and most prestigious British chivalric order. His role as the Duke of York, bestowed upon him by his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, will cease to exist.

Emily Maitlis, who conducted a controversial BBC Newsnight interview with the prince in 2019, welcomed Prince Andrew’s decision, calling it overdue. The interview had featured the prince claiming he had ended all connections with Epstein in 2010, whereas subsequent emails from 2011 suggested otherwise. The existence of these emails, including one from Andrew expressing a desire to reconnect, raised questions about the prince’s honesty during the interview. The scrutiny surrounding Prince Andrew is expected to intensify with the release of a posthumous memoir by Ms. Giuffre, shedding further light on his involvement with her and Epstein
