Brookside one-off special return date revealed

Next week, viewers can look forward to a special TV event as familiar faces from Brookside make a return to the small screen. Camera crews were present in the iconic cul-de-sac last month to film a crossover episode celebrating Hollyoaks’ 30th anniversary. Esteemed TV stars Sue Johnston and Ricky Tomlinson will be reprising their roles for this highly anticipated soap revival. The special episode is scheduled to air on E4 at 19:00 BST on 22 October.

Joining Johnston and Tomlinson on set are other beloved Brookside favorites, including Paul Usher as Barry Grant, John McArdle as Billy Corkhill, Philip Olivier as Timothy “Tinhead” O’Leary, Suzanne Collins as Nikki Shadwick, and Michael Starke as Thomas “Sinbad” Sweeney. One of the former Brookside cast members, Louis Emerick, who portrayed Mick Johnson from 1989 to 2001, is now playing detective Donny Clark in Hollyoaks. He hinted at an exciting storyline for the crossover episode, promising viewers some fun twists and turns. Emerick teased, “The character of Froggy Black has been causing trouble for Donny because he knows a big secret Donny’s been keeping. All is not as it seems, and it’s definitely linked to the Brookside crossover. The house of cards is about to come crashing down.”

This special episode marks the first time Brookside Close has been featured on television since the series wrapped up on 4 November 2003. The groundbreaking show, set in Liverpool, was renowned for its impactful storylines that tackled sensitive topics like rape, bullying, and incest. The series concluded memorably with Jimmy Corkhill, portrayed by the late Dean Sullivan, painting a “d” on the sign, turning it into “Brookside Closed” before driving out of the cul-de-sac
