Rescue teams search for missing German walker on Skye

A German walker named Matthias Beutin has gone missing on the Isle of Skye, prompting a search effort from both police and mountain rescue teams. Beutin was last seen at Blaven car park near Loch Slapin on Thursday morning before he embarked on a climb up Blà Bheinn. Concerns have been raised for his wellbeing as he has not been in contact with his family since his disappearance.

Despite extensive searches by the Skye Mountain Rescue Team over two full days on Friday and Saturday, Beutin has yet to be located. Police Scotland is urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward. Beutin is described as being around 5ft 9in with an average build, short dark hair, and was last seen wearing a blue waterproof jacket, brown waterproof trousers, and dark brown Meindl trekking shoes, carrying a small black and orange backpack.

Sgt David Mockett expressed that Beutin’s lack of communication with his family is uncharacteristic, further raising concerns for his safety. The search effort for Beutin has been hindered by challenging terrain and poor visibility, as noted by the Skye Mountain Rescue Team. Various search and rescue teams, including the Search and Rescue Dog Association, Kintail Mountain Rescue, and the Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service, have all participated in the search operation. Blà Bheinn, also known as Blaven, is a renowned Munro for hikers and climbers situated in a secluded area of Skye, near the Cullin Ridge
