A man from Cheshire who likened himself to the Kardashian family and scammed victims out of thousands of pounds for designer handbags has been sentenced to jail. Jack Watkin, 26, who previously resided on Wilmslow Road in Alderley Edge, funded his lavish lifestyle by deceiving businesses and individuals, amassing over £200,000 in total.
Watkin, who featured on Channel 4’s program Rich Kids Of Instagram, received a six-year prison term at Chester Crown Court after confessing to charges of fraud, theft, possession of indecent photos, and producing indecent images. His modus operandi involved using the allure of luxury handbag brand Hermes to coerce people into giving him money.
The victims were led to believe by Watkin that he had connections that could provide access to these coveted handbags, promising to share the profits from resale. However, after surrendering their funds in good faith, they were left empty-handed as the promised returns failed to materialize. Despite their inquiries for refunds, Watkin always had excuses ready to deceive them further.
The investigation commenced following a woman’s report to the Metropolitan Police in 2022, suspecting Watkin’s fraudulent activities. Cheshire Constabulary’s Economic Crime Unit unraveled a significant number of victims, along with a trove of luxury items and hotel expenditures. Additionally, indecent images were discovered on his devices, leading to further convictions related to possessing indecent media and prohibited content. Watkin’s deceitful schemes and reprehensible actions have resulted in severe legal repercussions, including mandatory registration as a sex offender and stringent monitoring for a decade
