Marcus Fakana: Teen jailed in Dubai dies in London police chase

Tragedy struck in London when Marcus Fakana, a British teenager who had previously been jailed in Dubai for a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, passed away in a car crash. The fatal incident occurred in Tottenham, North London, during the early hours of Friday, where Fakana was a passenger in the vehicle that collided. Despite being rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, he succumbed to his wounds.

While details surrounding the crash are still emerging, the Metropolitan Police reported that they had tried to intercept the car, but after a brief pursuit, they lost sight of it. The car was later discovered crashed into a truck. Fakana, who had been granted a royal pardon by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, had been sentenced to a year in prison for his involvement in the illicit relationship when he was 18 years old.

Reflecting on Fakana’s ordeal, his attorney and founder of Detained in Dubai, Radha Stirling, mentioned his appreciation for the support he received from the British public and how his time in prison had refocused his beliefs towards Christianity and prayer. Stirling highlighted the mental anguish Fakana endured during his incarceration and expressed sadness over the brevity of his freedom, which lasted only three months before the fatal accident.

Facing charges related to the fatal crash is Marwaan Mohamed Huseen from Tottenham, who has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a license, and failing to stop. Huseen is scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, with authorities notifying the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct about the incident
