Judas Priest, a renowned heavy metal band, recently unveiled a charity single that features the late Ozzy Osbourne in an effort to raise funds for Parkinson’s disease charities. This initiative was inspired by the former Black Sabbath frontman’s battle with the degenerative neurological condition, which unfortunately led to his passing in July shortly after a farewell gig at Aston Villa.
Hailing from Birmingham in the 1960s, Judas Priest made the decision to release a charity version of Black Sabbath’s War Pigs. This choice came about after they were unable to participate in the farewell gig alongside Osbourne and other metal bands due to prior commitments. Notably, band member Glenn Tipton, who is also living with Parkinson’s disease, contributed his talents on the guitar while Rob Halford and Osbourne shared vocal duties on the song.
Initially conceived as a tribute video for Osbourne and Black Sabbath, the track evolved into a charity single at the band’s suggestion. The final product saw Osbourne, along with original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Terence “Geezer” Butler, and Bill Ward, taking the stage for the Back To The Beginning concert in July. This event featured a star-studded lineup that included performances by Anthrax, Metallica, and Guns N’Roses.
Following Osbourne’s passing, his wife Sharon and children Aimee, Jack, and Kelly paid a visit to the Black Sabbath bridge to pay respects and view the floral tributes left in his memory. Judas Priest’s rendition of the Black Sabbath classic was officially released on a Friday, with all proceeds being donated to the Glenn Tipton Parkinson’s Foundation and Cure Parkinson’s, supporting ongoing research and efforts to combat the disease
