A former Metropolitan Police officer, Jake Cummings, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of multiple offenses, including rape, coercive behavior, voyeurism, and stalking, involving three women. The incidents occurred while Cummings was working as a special constable in Dorset and later as a police constable in London. The cases were heard in trials at St Albans Crown Court, where it was revealed that Cummings had been in relationships with the women for nearly five years.
Judge Bilal Siddique described Cummings’ actions as a “campaign of abuse” and highlighted the significant aggravating factors in his behavior. The judge noted that Cummings used his position as a police officer to control his victims and displayed a pattern of persistent and impulsive behavior towards women. Due to the seriousness of the crimes, the judge deemed Cummings “dangerous” and ordered him to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
The investigation into Cummings began after a victim reported the incidents to Hertfordshire Police in February 2024. Two other victims subsequently came forward, leading to Cummings’ arrest at his mother’s home in Dorset. The victim impact statements in court revealed the psychological trauma inflicted by Cummings’ actions, with one woman highlighting the fear and control he exerted over her daily life.
Despite his initial denial, Cummings was found guilty of multiple offenses, including coercive behavior, voyeurism, and stalking. The Metropolitan Police dismissed Cummings in 2024 for gross misconduct after the initial convictions. His defense lawyer emphasized Cummings’ young age and the trauma of losing his father to suicide at a young age, stating that he was committed to rehabilitation during his time in prison. Hertfordshire Police condemned Cummings’ behavior as a pattern of abuse that caused misery to the victims over several years, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators like Cummings accountable for their actions
