UK rewarding Hamas with Palestinian recognition, says mother of freed Israeli hostage

Political reporter Sam Francis reported that the mother of former British-Israeli hostage Emily Damari has criticized Sir Keir Starmer for the UK government’s decision to formally recognize a Palestinian state. Mandy Damari, whose daughter was held captive for 15 months after being kidnapped during the 7 October attacks, expressed her disapproval of the timing of the decision while hostages remain unrecovered and Hamas continues to hold power in Gaza.

Sir Keir defended the government’s move by stating that it was in response to Israel’s failure to meet certain conditions set in July and aimed to reignite hope for a two-state solution. He emphasized that the recognition was not intended as a reward to Hamas, reiterating the UK’s stance against the terrorist organization’s future role in government and security.

Despite Sir Keir’s justification, Mandy Damari accused him of living in a “two-state delusion” and asserted that the decision was essentially rewarding Hamas for their involvement in the brutal attack. The announcement of recognizing a Palestinian state came as a coordinated effort with Australia and Canada, following a deteriorating situation in Gaza due to Israel’s recent ground operation in Gaza City, which caused a mass exodus of civilians.

While the UK’s move was met with optimism by Palestinians and some political figures, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vehemently opposed the idea of a Palestinian state, expressing that it would not come to fruition. Reacting to the decision, various individuals and groups criticized the UK government’s stance, labeling it as rewarding terrorism and potentially prolonging the suffering of hostages and innocent civilians caught in the conflict
