Emer Moreau, a Business reporter, reported that workers in the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) supply chain are facing financial difficulties due to the cyber attack that forced the carmaker to shut down its IT networks and cease production. Unite, the union representing these workers, has called for the UK government to establish a furlough scheme, similar to the one introduced by the Scottish government for Alexander Dennis.
Unite’s general secretary, Sharon Graham, emphasized that it is crucial for the government to safeguard jobs and industries that play a significant role in the economy. She pointed out that workers in the JLR supply chain should not bear the brunt of the cyber attack. Minister for Industry Chris McDonald has been actively engaging with JLR and other industry stakeholders to address the challenges resulting from the cyber attack and work towards restarting production.

The attack has prompted calls for emergency support akin to the assistance provided during the Covid-19 pandemic to aid affected suppliers in navigating this challenging period
