Culture reporter Ian Youngs has noted the BBC’s announcement of a new airing date for a documentary featuring Ozzy Osbourne, a production that was yanked from the TV listings at the last moment a month ago. Originally slated to be broadcast on 18 August, the documentary, titled Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, was put on hold the same day with the BBC explaining its decision as the agency’s adherence to the family’s request for a postponement in airing “this very special film.”
The initial scheduled broadcast would have been just under a month after the passing of the former Black Sabbath lead singer at the age of 76. Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, a one-hour long film, delves into the rock legend’s final years, depicting the momentous return of Ozzy to the limelight during his farewell performance in Birmingham in July. The documentary is now set to be shown on BBC One and iPlayer at 21:00 BST on 2 October.
The film will delve into the last three years of the esteemed rock star’s life as he and his wife Sharon decided to relocate from Los Angeles to the UK, highlighting Ozzy’s valiant struggle to reclaim the stage at his farewell concert in Birmingham. The updated description provided by the BBC hails the documentary as an “intimate” portrayal of one of Birmingham’s cherished sensations and his extraordinary bond with Sharon, illustrating how the couple surmounted monumental challenges, professionally and personally, in their endeavor to overcome health issues and stage the ultimate concert.
Meanwhile, a distinct documentary has been unveiled; billed as an up-close and personal look into the six-year health battle of the rock icon as he strives to make a final appearance on the stage. Titled Ozzy: No Escape From Now, the documentary will chronicle Ozzy’s life post a tragic fall in 2019, with Sharon counted among the executive producers of the documentary. This second documentary is slated for release on Paramount+ starting from 7 October
