Care leavers hub opens its doors in Liverpool

Liverpool City Council has recently opened a new “care leavers hub” to provide support and assistance to young people with experience in the care system as they transition into adulthood. The hub, located initially at the MPAC building on Bridport Street, offers various services and facilities all under one roof, including personal support, a shared kitchen, arts and crafts space, a canteen, and a DJ/music suite. This initiative aims to ease the often daunting experience of leaving the care system and help care leavers seek the necessary support and guidance they need.
Care-experienced young people will benefit from a schedule of events and activities organized by the council to prepare them for the next stage of their journey into adulthood. The hub’s temporary location at the MPAC building allows for immediate service delivery while plans for a permanent, purposeful venue are in development. Cllr Liz Parsons, Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Services at Liverpool City Council, emphasized the importance of providing care leavers with a place to turn to whenever they need support.
The long-term goal is to establish a permanent location for the hub, ensuring that care leavers will always have access to a supportive environment. The temporary hub’s accessibility is further facilitated by the provision of free travel passes by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to all care leavers. This demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that care-experienced young people have the resources and assistance they require as they navigate the transition to independence and adulthood
