People affected by Lockerbie bombing asked to sign up to view trial

Families of the victims of the Lockerbie bombing are being encouraged to sign up with the FBI to gain remote access to the upcoming criminal trial of a Libyan individual accused of orchestrating the attack. This includes emergency responders and locals who were among the first to lend assistance after the tragic event. Abu Agila Mohamad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi, also known as Masud, has refuted any involvement in setting up the explosive that brought down Pan Am Flight 103 on the fateful day of December 21, 1988, resulting in the deaths of 270 individuals.

Originally scheduled for May 2025, Masud’s trial has been postponed until April 2026 at the request of both the prosecution and defense teams. The US Department of Justice is actively encouraging anyone affected by the bombing, including relatives, first responders, and emergency personnel, to complete an online form and register as a victim to gain access to pre-trial hearings and view the trial remotely through an official government platform. It is crucial to note that individuals who had previously registered must re-register due to the trial date change.

Judge Jeanine Ferris Pirro, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, emphasized the importance of registering as a verified victim to be eligible for remote access to Masud’s trial. Abdelbasset Al Megrahi, who was convicted of the murders of the 270 victims, passed away in Tripoli in 2012 after being released on compassionate grounds by the Scottish government
