Emergency services were called to Heathrow airport on Monday after reports of “possible hazardous materials” at Terminal 4. Fire crews partially evacuated the terminal as a precaution while the London Fire Brigade conducted an assessment of the scene. Despite the disruption, no adverse substances were found, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Earlier, National Rail had announced that trains would not be stopping at Terminal 4 due to the ongoing emergency services incident. Firefighters were eventually stood down and the cause of the incident is still under investigation by both the LFB and Metropolitan Police. Thankfully, no individuals were found to be in life-threatening or life-changing conditions as a result of the incident.
Twenty-one people were assessed by the London Ambulance Service, with only one individual requiring hospital treatment. Heathrow airport reopened to passengers shortly after 20:00, with a spokesperson expressing regret for any inconvenience caused. Flights departing from Terminal 4 seemed to resume with minimal disruption as the evacuation came to a close, based on flight data available at the time.
