Eve Robinson found herself in a distressing situation after a long day at work, as a barrister she had just met violated her personal space during after-work drinks. Recalling the incident, Eve shared, “He put his arm around me and he put his arm up my dress and down inside my tights and when I pulled his arm out he did it again.” This assault left Eve feeling ashamed, dirty, and completely overwhelmed, describing it as a violation of her personal space and respect.

Many barristers, especially those in junior positions, fear repercussions if they report such misconduct, as it could negatively impact their careers.

In response to the review, Baroness Harman made 36 recommendations to address the issue of bullying and harassment within the Bar. These recommendations include mandatory anti-bullying and anti-harassment training, the appointment of a new conduct tsar, the implementation of a new complaints system, and the prohibition of relationships between those undergoing training and established barristers and employees.
