Actress Sally Dynevor, known for her role as Sally Metcalfe on Coronation Street, is gearing up for a new challenge by announcing her plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in support of breast cancer prevention. Dynevor, who battled breast cancer herself at the age of 46, will be embarking on a five-day trek to the summit of the dormant volcano in Tanzania, all in an effort to raise funds for charity Prevent Breast Cancer.
Despite not knowing exactly why she’s taking on this feat, Dynevor expressed her commitment to the cause, stating, “I have no idea why I am doing this, but as a breast cancer survivor, I want to do as much as I can for this charity.” The 62-year-old actress is excited about the upcoming challenge and is looking forward to the experience ahead. This isn’t Dynevor’s first endeavor in support of breast cancer research, as she previously climbed to Everest Base Camp in 2019 to raise funds for the same cause.
Joining Dynevor on this trek will be her son Sam and 13 other volunteers from Prevent Breast Cancer. The actress revealed that her on-screen portrayal of a character battling breast cancer prompted her to be vigilant about her own health, leading to the early detection of her own diagnosis. Dynevor emphasizes the importance of regular self-checks regardless of age, emphasizing the significance of seeking medical attention at the first signs of any abnormalities.
Prevent Breast Cancer’s Chief Executive Nikki Barraclough, who will also be participating in the climb, highlighted the significance of the funds raised from the challenge. The proceeds will be allocated towards research projects focusing on gene research, early detection and screening, preventative drugs, and risk-reducing factors.
