Actor John Alford guilty of sexually assaulting two girls

Actor John Alford, known for roles in London’s Burning and Grange Hill, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two teenage girls. The 53-year-old actor, who appeared in court under his real name of John Shannon, was accused of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl and assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a friend’s house in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, in April 2022.

During the trial at St Albans Crown Court, Alford vehemently denied the charges, putting his head in his hands and shouting “wrong, I didn’t do this” from the dock as the verdict was read out. Despite his claims of innocence, he was informed by the court that he should expect a jail sentence in December.

The prosecuting barrister highlighted that both girls were intoxicated at the time of the assaults, with Alford being aware of their age but denying any inappropriate behavior. Alford’s defense included allegations of a potential extortion plot and the absence of DNA evidence linking him to the crimes, but the jury ultimately found him guilty on multiple counts related to the sexual assaults.

Alford’s previous criminal history involving drug offenses and other misdemeanors was also brought to light during the trial. The judge granted him conditional bail ahead of sentencing, but warned him of the seriousness of the charges and the likelihood of a custodial sentence. The actor is set to be sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on 4 December
