Powys village Three Cocks censored on British Cycling website

An apology has been issued by Britain’s official cycling body for mistakenly censoring the name of a small Welsh village in its event listing. Three Cocks, located in Powys, recently hosted two stages of a junior road race. The British Cycling website initially listed the village as “Three *****” before rectifying the error. A spokesperson attributed the censorship to the system’s attempt to “spare our blushes” by automatically censoring the village name.

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, the village welcomed stages one and two of the national series. The first stage consisted of a 76km (47.5 miles) sprint circuit on rural roads surrounding Three Cocks, while the second stage featured a 10km (6 miles) time trial. Additional stages were held in neighboring counties such as Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent. British Cycling expressed regret for the accidental censorship, acknowledging that it was a result of overly sensitive filters on their website.

The cycling organization shared, “It’s wonderful to see this outstanding event receiving national attention, however, we are reviewing the new systems in place to prevent technology from overriding common sense in the future.” Despite the initial mishap, the junior road race was a success with participants and spectators enjoying the thrilling races held in picturesque Welsh countryside. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of balancing technology with human oversight to avoid such mishaps in the future
