Berrow Wood School, now a private residence, has previously refused to comment

Berrow Wood School closed in 1992 and the owners of the Grade II-listed building have previously said they do not want to comment on its past.

Jim Gamble, former chief executive of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop) and a child protection expert, has called for a more in-depth investigation into what went on at Berrow Wood.

He told the BBC he fears the scale of abuse suffered by pupils at the school is greater than is currently known.

“It is another reminder of the suffering that so many children experienced both physically and sexually in the care of those that society entrusted with their welfare,” he said
