Help Liverpool’s young people to blaze a trail to employment

Liverpool City Council is extending a call to all organizations in Liverpool that are dedicated to assisting young people in finding work. Thanks to a grant from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as part of the national Youth Guarantee Trailblazer (YGT) program, the council has access to £5m to support various projects aimed at economically inactive or NEET (not in employment, education, or training) young residents.

As one of the eight designated YGT areas, Liverpool City Region aims to bring together current employment support services while exploring new strategies to ensure that all individuals between the ages of 18-21 have the necessary resources to secure employment. The efforts made in the Trailblazer areas will provide valuable insights to the government on effective approaches to helping young people enter the workforce.

The YGT program encompasses enhanced support for care-experienced youth, behavioral research into long-term NEET individuals, employment and employability assistance to address current gaps, and engagement with employers to facilitate the recruitment and retention of young workers. The Liverpool City Council is now accepting grant applications from eligible organizations to develop inventive employment initiatives in categories such as entry-to-employment programs, creative and sports programs, support for young workers with additional needs, and employer training programs.

Interested parties can submit their grant applications by visiting liverpool.gov.uk/trailblazergrants before the deadline on September 19. The YGT program is expected to run until March 2026 and is an extension of Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram’s Young Person’s Guarantee initiative, which aligns with the Get Britain Working White Paper from last November aimed at reducing economic inactivity and youth unemployment. For additional details on the grants, organizations can reach out via email at youthtrailblazer@liverpool.gov.uk
