Adam Frisby, the founder of the online womenswear brand In The Style, recently opened up about his decision to leave the company two years ago, revealing that he has “no regrets” about it. In a candid interview on the We Need to Talk podcast, Frisby delved into the journey of building the company from scratch in his bedroom with just £1,000 in 2013.
The once-thriving In The Style soared to great heights, being listed on the London Stock Exchange with a valuation of over £100m in 2021. However, the company faced a drastic downfall, leading to its delisting and subsequent sale for £1.2m in 2023. To prevent the company from going into administration, it was later sold again earlier this year.
Frisby recounted the immense toll the company’s troubles took on him, highlighting the death threats and homophobic abuse he endured during that period. Despite being valued at £105m, In The Style encountered challenges post-stock market listing, with declining interest in fashion businesses post-Covid and increased costs due to the conflict in Ukraine contributing to its losses of £8.4m.
Moreover, Frisby shed light on a lengthy legal battle he faced over allegations of stealing the idea for In The Style from another entrepreneur. The legal turmoil coincided with the company’s delisting and led to a High Court hearing, which he ultimately won. Describing it as “the darkest period of my life,” Frisby revealed the overwhelming pressure he faced during the ordeal, compounded by death threats and online hate directed at him
