Speke residents gather to celebrate community cohesion

The residents of Speke are gearing up for a weekend of celebration with the launch of SpekeFest25, a community event highlighting diversity and culture. Taking place this Saturday (30 August) from 12pm to 6pm at Speke Adventure Playground and the Lifestyles Austin Rawlinson Car Park, the event aims to bring people together in a family-friendly environment.

Coordinated by Liverpool City Council, Speke Adventure Playground, and South Liverpool Homes, SpekeFest25 is an initiative aimed at strengthening community bonds, promoting inclusivity, and showcasing the positive initiatives happening in the area. Attendees can expect live entertainment from local bands and performers, a funfair suitable for all ages, and complimentary meals courtesy of the Rapid Relief Team.

Various community organizations will also be on hand during the event to provide information and support, including the South Liverpool Domestic Violence Service and the Anthony Walker Foundation. Notably, this event commemorates the 50th anniversary of Speke Adventure Playground, which has been a cornerstone for children and families since its establishment in 1975, offering free play and organized activities to aid early childhood development.

A recent gathering held by the Council, in collaboration with South Liverpool Homes and over 20 supporting organizations, featured key figures like Maria Eagle MP, emphasizing the importance of collective action in driving initiatives like SpekeFest25 forward. Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, the Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods, and Streetscene, highlighted the event as an opportunity for residents to celebrate the vibrant community spirit and diversity of Speke. She expressed optimism in the positive changes that can be achieved by fostering collaboration among stakeholders in the region
