North Belfast: Guns and explosives found as Victoria Parade security alert ends

Authorities in north Belfast have successfully concluded a security alert that lasted for three days, leading to the arrest of a man in his 30s. The alert was initiated after a suspicious object was found in a property on Victoria Parade. Residents were evacuated from their homes and temporarily relocated to a council facility, causing significant disruption within the community, according to the police.

A team of Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) conducted controlled explosions on several objects within the property, uncovering suspected explosive devices and firearms during the searches. Some of these items have been seized from the premises and will undergo further forensic analysis. Following the completion of the operation, residents have been permitted to return to their homes as roads in the area are now reopened.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) expressed gratitude to the affected residents for their cooperation and patience during the challenging situation. Chief Inspector Pete Cunningham mentioned that a man has been taken into custody on suspicion of various offenses and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
