An investigation has determined that a 32-year-old woman, Jade Damarell, tragically took her own life while skydiving following the end of her relationship. Jade, a marketing manager, passed away after landing in farmland near Fleming Field in Shotton Colliery, County Durham on April 27. Despite being a skilled skydiver with over 500 jumps under her belt, she did not attempt to deploy any parachutes, leading Assistant Coroner Dr. Leslie Hamilton to conclude that she had intended to end her life.
The inquest revealed that Jade was deeply passionate about skydiving and had previously used a helmet camera during jumps. Despite perfect weather conditions and functioning equipment, she chose not to use the camera that day. Her former partner shared that they had parted ways the night before her fatal jump, despite initially bonding over their mutual love for skydiving. On the day of the incident, Jade had completed six jumps safely, highlighting the sudden and tragic nature of her decision.
A post-mortem examination conducted at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle confirmed that Jade’s cause of death was “blunt trauma,” ruling out the influence of alcohol or drugs. Her grieving parents, Liz and Andrew Samuel, participated remotely in the inquest. Following the proceedings, Jade’s family described her as a remarkable individual, praising her as a bright, adventurous, and compassionate soul who left an indelible mark on those around her. They emphasized her energetic spirit, passion, and kindness, underscoring the profound impact she had on countless lives.
