A woman convicted for promoting racial hatred towards asylum seekers has claimed she was unfairly targeted as a political prisoner under the government. She incited violence against asylum seekers following the tragic Southport attack in July 2024. Despite her release, Connolly insists she and others were wrongfully imprisoned due to political motivations.
In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Connolly expressed her belief that she and others were used as pawns by the Prime Minister. She criticized Sir Keir Starmer, highlighting his background as a human rights lawyer while advocating for a reexamination of freedom of speech laws. Although she acknowledged the controversial nature of her post, Connolly maintained that her intentions were not to promote violence but to express her frustrations.
Following her sentencing, Judge Melbourne Inman KC emphasized the volatile climate during which Connolly made her remarks, leading to a wave of disorder and violence. While supporting free speech, Sir Keir Starmer reiterated his stance against incitement to violence, standing by the actions taken by law enforcement to protect the public. Despite being on license until the completion of her sentence, Connolly plans to challenge the police over allegedly distorted statements attributed to her during the case.
Despite facing backlash for her inflammatory comments, Connolly remains adamant that her words were taken out of context and used against her. She lamented the misrepresentation of her views, stating that she never intended to encourage any form of violence or harm. Number 10 and Northamptonshire Police declined to provide any comment regarding Connolly’s allegations and concerns
