US Vice-President JD Vance wrapped up his private holiday in Scotland alongside his family. Spending four days in the country, Vance resided at a private country estate in Hurlford near Kilmarnock. Departing Scotland, Vance boarded Air Force Two at Prestwick Airport just before 13:00 on Sunday afternoon.
During his stay, Vance enjoyed a round of golf at President Donald Trump’s Turnberry resort and ventured to the Cotswolds in England, where he met with foreign secretary David Lammy. His visit coincided with Trump’s recent stop in Scotland, where he too golfed at Turnberry and his course in Aberdeenshire.
Vance’s return to the US coincides with other world leaders, including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, heading to the White House for a meeting with Trump. Talks between the US president and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska failed to reach a resolution on ending the conflict in Ukraine.
The trip marked a significant moment for Vance, who proudly identifies as a “Scots-Irish hillbilly,” residing at the Carnell Estates during his time in Scotland. Despite claiming Scottish ancestry from Galloway, questions have arisen regarding the validity of this assertion from his 2016 memoir “Hillbilly Elegy.”
French President Emmanuel Macron, along with other world leaders, expressed their intent to join Starmer and Vance at the White House on Monday for discussions on achieving a lasting peace agreement in Ukraine. Putin’s proposed peace offer during the discussions in Alaska required Ukrainian forces to withdraw from the Donetsk region, a condition rejected by Zelensky, citing concerns over potential future Russian offensives
