Universal UK: 18,000 register for Bedfordshire theme park jobs

There has been a surge of interest in potential job opportunities at the proposed Universal Studios theme park in the UK, with more than 18,000 people expressing their desire to work there. Universal Destinations & Experiences has submitted a request to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to develop a resort in Kempston Hardwick, near Bedford. A public consultation is currently underway until the end of August, with the company recently confirming the ongoing high level of interest and enthusiasm from the public.

According to Universal, over 80% of the 18,000 individuals who have registered interest in employment at the theme park reside in Bedford or the surrounding areas. The planned theme park is projected to draw in around 8.5 million visitors annually, with peak days seeing up to 55,000 visitors, potentially making it one of the most popular theme parks in Europe. To accommodate the large scale of the project, which involves enhancements to local transportation infrastructure such as roads and rail links, Universal had to secure a Special Development Order (SDO) before proceeding with construction.

Universal anticipates that the theme park will bring about nearly £50bn in economic benefits and generate approximately 28,000 jobs. In order to facilitate potential employment opportunities, a registration form was made available on the Universal UK website in June for individuals interested in future job roles. Furthermore, over 2,000 suppliers have also expressed their interest in collaborating with the park, indicating a significant level of external support and engagement with the project
