Ban for Colchester Lamborghini driver caught doing 140mph

In Essex, a Lamborghini driver named Fred McKennon was caught speeding at a staggering 140mph (225kmph) and has been temporarily banned from driving. The incident took place on the A120 dual carriageway at Takeley, near Stansted Airport, where officers conducting speed checks noticed the illegal tinted front windows on McKennon’s vehicle. As a result, his car was seized under anti-social driving legislation.

After being apprehended, McKennon appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court where he was handed a 56-day driving ban and received three penalty points on his license for the tinted windows. The front windows on his Lamborghini were found to be allowing less than 30% of visible light transmission, well below the legal requirement of at least 70%. This violation led to the hefty fine of £1,708 for McKennon.

PC Matthew Mehan from Boreham Roads Policing Unit highlighted the dangers of speeding, stating that excessive speed not only endangers lives but is also a criminal offense. Driving at such high speeds significantly impairs a driver’s ability to react to changing road conditions and increases braking distances. It’s a reckless behavior that puts others at risk and is completely unacceptable on the roads.

The national speed limit on the A120 at Takeley is 70mph (112km/h), making McKennon’s speed of 140mph more than double the legal limit. Essex Police emphasized the importance of adhering to safety regulations regarding visible light transmission through car windows. The incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the need for motorists to prioritize safety on the roads
