Residents in Flintshire have been facing water shortages for a second day as Wales braces for its fourth heatwave of the year. A burst water main in Broughton has left thousands without water, prompting locals to assist in distributing bottled water and causing long lines at water stations. Welsh Water stated that repairs to the water main were completed on Friday afternoon, but cautioned that disruptions may persist as efforts continue to restore supplies to everyone by Sunday.

The burst water main has impacted residents in various areas including Flint, Holywell, and Deeside. Two Cymru Premier matches have also been called off due to the water shortage. While bottled water stations in Flintshire are helping to keep people hydrated, some have experienced extended wait times. Beth Hall, an animal keeper at Greenacres Animal Park, expressed concerns about the welfare of the animals, noting the reliance on bottled water donations due to the lack of access to regular water sources.

Residents like Fiona Lettsome from Queensferry have been without water since Thursday, forcing them to seek alternative sources like water bottles. Concerned about the impact of the water shortage on vulnerable residents, community groups like Deeside Roundtable have taken it upon themselves to deliver water to those in need. Welsh Water CEO Peter Perry issued an apology to customers and assured that efforts were ongoing to address the issue caused by the 30-inch main buried 16 feet underground.

Flintshire county councillor Rosetta Dolphin highlighted the challenges faced by homes without water, mentioning the deployment of water stations and assistance from fire services in distributing water. Welsh Water continues to prioritize support for the most vulnerable members of the community as the situation unfolds
