Three children accused of murdering a man in Kent will face trial starting on 13 January 2026. The defendants include a 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15. The trio, whose identities remain protected due to their age, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.
The victim, Alexander Cashford, 49, from Kent, was found dead at the scene in Leysdown-on-Sea, on the Isle of Sheppey. According to the prosecution, the attack allegedly involved the use of a glass bottle and rocks. While the cause of Mr. Cashford’s death is still inconclusive, authorities suspect it may have been due to a “medical episode such as a cardiac arrest.”
During a previous court appearance at the magistrates’ court, the teenagers confirmed their names, addresses, and dates of birth. A plea and trial preparation date has been scheduled for 6 November. Additionally, a 12-year-old girl was arrested in Basildon, Essex, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and assisting offenders. She has been released on bail as the investigation continues.
It has come to light that Mr. Cashford had prior convictions for stalking and driving offenses. He had pleaded guilty to stalking involving serious alarm or distress at Medway Magistrates Court, which resulted in a one-month curfew, a six-month electronic tag requirement, and a ban from entering the Hempstead Valley Shopping Center. The year before, Mr. Cashford also pleaded guilty to three driving offenses at the same court
