Luxury vehicles worth millions of pounds were impounded by the Metropolitan Police in an effort to crack down on dangerous driving in central London. A total of 72 vehicles, valued at approximately £6 million, were seized in a three-day operation spanning Hyde Park, Kensington, and Chelsea. Among the confiscated vehicles were two identical purple Lamborghinis.

The drivers of these vehicles were found to be in violation of various motoring laws, including driving without insurance, lacking a valid driving license, presenting false documentation, driving with fraudulent number plates, and more. Additionally, several stolen vehicles were uncovered during the operation, leading to the arrest of eight individuals for offenses ranging from actual bodily harm to criminal damage.

According to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, a pair of uninsured purple Lamborghinis were brought into the UK for their owner’s summer vacation. One of the drivers had only been in the country for two hours and had been on the road for just 15 minutes before being stopped and having their vehicle seized. The Bureau also noted that some drivers were relying on insurance policies from their home countries without confirming coverage in the UK.

Andy Trotter, a spokesperson for the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, emphasized the dangers of uninsured driving, stating that someone is harmed by an uninsured driver in the UK every 20 minutes. The organization also pointed out that one person dies per week due to an uninsured driver. The Metropolitan Police’s Special Constabulary conducted the operation in response to complaints from residents and businesses about the disruptive presence of high-value vehicles in central and west London
