The forthcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing is taking shape with the announcement of more celebrities joining the show. Love Island victor Dani Dyer, esteemed actress Alex Kingston, and former footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink are set to hit the dance floor, as disclosed by the BBC. The unveiling took place on The One Show, where they joined Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, an Olympic sprinter previously known as Nitro on Gladiators, as part of the line-up.

Alex Kingston, at 62 years of age, is best known for her roles in ER, Doctor Who, and various films and stage productions. She expressed her excitement with a simple “Aaaaagghhh!!!!!!” upon confirming her participation on Strictly. Dani Dyer, who rose to fame from Love Island in 2018 and has since been involved in various projects with her father Danny Dyer, shared that being on Strictly is the second most remarkable thing she has done this year. Additionally, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a former Dutch footballer who has managed several clubs, is eager to tackle the challenge of the ballroom floor, emphasizing that he looks forward to a new type of footwork.

Joining the cast this year are new professional dancers Alexis Warr, a US dance champion, and Julian Caillon, who has appeared in Australia’s Dancing With The Stars. Last year’s winner was comedian Chris McCausland, while the show has faced controversies involving some professional dancers and celebrity guests. The BBC has implemented new welfare measures for the show, including chaperones in rehearsal rooms and additional training for all involved, following allegations of drug use and misconduct last year.
