EasyJet captain suspended after getting 'drunk and naked' in hotel

An EasyJet pilot has been suspended following an incident where he was reportedly spotted in a drunken and naked state at a luxury hotel. The captain, whose identity has not been disclosed, was seen walking around a five-star resort in Cape Verde without any clothing on during the early hours of August 5th after a night of heavy drinking at a bar, as per a report by The Sun.

Although the pilot was supposed to fly back to Gatwick more than 36 hours later, EasyJet decided to ground him after receiving complaints about his behavior. A replacement pilot was brought in to cover the flight. An official from EasyJet stated that the pilot is now under investigation and emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew is their top priority.

According to The Sun, the captain arrived at the Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa on August 4th and proceeded to drink heavily. Around 02:30 local time on the following day, hotel guests allegedly witnessed him undressing and moving around the reception, gym, and spa while intoxicated. An insider from the airline mentioned to the newspaper that the pilot was completely naked and had a strong smell of alcohol, causing concerns among observers about his ability to operate a flight shortly after the incident.

Despite being scheduled to pilot the return flight to Gatwick on August 6th, covering a distance of 2,332 nautical miles, the captain was removed from the duty. EasyJet assured that immediate action was taken as soon as they were informed, and the pilot was suspended pending further investigation, in compliance with their protocols. The airline reasserted their commitment to maintaining the safety of passengers and crew, as outlined in their code of business ethics, which emphasizes integrity in all interactions with people, customers, partners, and communities
