A British couple, Lindsay and Craig Foreman, from East Sussex, found themselves in a dire situation when they were detained in Iran during their once-in-a-lifetime trip around the world. The couple was charged with espionage by Iranian authorities in January, despite denying the allegations. This sparked months of no direct contact with their loved ones until recently when they were allowed their first phone calls home.
Their son, Joe Bennett, shared his relief at finally hearing his mother’s voice after more than 200 days of uncertainty about her well-being. He described the emotional phone call as a moment where they laughed, cried, and briefly felt the weight of the past seven months lifted. Despite the challenging circumstances, Joe emphasized that his parents were holding strong, remaining resilient, positive, and somehow managing to maintain their smiles.

Joe Bennett stressed the importance of focusing on the real issues and called on the British government to recognize them as hostages and take decisive actions to secure their release. Meanwhile, the FCDO confirmed their ongoing efforts to raise the couple’s case directly with Iran’s government and provide consular assistance while staying in close touch with their family members
