Manchester Airport brawl: Officer accused of sharing footage

In the aftermath of a violent altercation at Manchester Airport in July 2024, a police officer is now under criminal investigation for allegedly sharing CCTV footage of the incident. The footage, which went viral on social media, captured the clash between officers and two men. Mohammed Fahir Amaaz was recently found guilty of assaulting two female police officers in relation to the incident.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has officially confirmed that a Greater Manchester Police officer is being investigated for sharing a video that was linked to an ongoing police investigation without a valid policing purpose. The watchdog is currently in the process of conducting a thorough investigation and plans to obtain the officer’s statement regarding the events in question in the near future.

Following concerns raised about the origins of a video that was released to the media, an independent investigation was initiated by the IOPC after receiving a referral from the police force in September 2024. The spokeswoman overseeing the case stated that the officer under investigation is facing allegations of corrupt or improper use of police powers, as well as unlawful acquisition of personal data. Additionally, the officer will be questioned about potential violations of the Computer Misuse Act 1990, misconduct in a public office, and obstruction of justice.

After a lengthy trial, Amaaz was found guilty of assaulting PC Lydia Ward and PC Ellie Cook, causing actual bodily harm to both individuals. However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on charges related to the assault of PC Zachary Marsden by Amaaz and his brother Muhammad Amaad. A retrial for these outstanding charges has been scheduled for April 2026
