An investigation is underway regarding a man who mistreated his vulnerable partner prior to her tragic suicide. The individual, Ryan Wellings, 31, was sentenced in January for assaulting Kiena Dawes and coercing her, leading to her demise on a railway line in Lancashire in 2022. Wellings, along with his girlfriend and mother, faces allegations of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The deceased, Kiena Dawes, left behind a distressing note accusing Wellings of being a “monster” who subjected her to physical and emotional abuse for over two years. Lancashire Police revealed that Wellings’ mother, Lisa Green, aged 52, and his girlfriend, Emma Croft, aged 28, were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
During Wellings’ trial, it emerged that authorities were looking into claims that his mother and girlfriend may have coached him on how to present evidence during the court proceedings. Although Wellings had the right to communicate with loved ones, discussing his case with them was prohibited by law. The subsequent investigations have seen the women released under investigation, while Wellings was interviewed under caution on a later date.
The court proceedings highlighted a tumultuous relationship between Wellings and Dawes, with reports of violent incidents and abusive behavior. Wellings was not found guilty of manslaughter but was accused of engaging in violent acts towards Dawes, including an incident where he knocked her unconscious by slamming a door into her head.
