Strictly Come Dancing: BBC launches investigation into 'cocaine use' on show

The BBC has initiated an inquiry into suspected drug usage by two individuals from the popular show, Strictly Come Dancing. The Sun on Sunday revealed that rumors about the alleged cocaine use among these stars had circulated within the show’s circles. To facilitate the investigation, the BBC has enlisted the support of a legal firm.

An undisclosed source disclosed to BBC News that the organization has specific protocols and guidelines in place to address any significant complaints it receives. The Sun on Sunday further reported that the accusations of drug use were included in a legal submission made by law firm Russells on behalf of Wynne Evans, a former celebrity contestant on the program. BBC News has reached out to Evans for a statement.

The media outlet stated that additional reports of drug-related incidents on the show had been submitted to the BBC. A BBC spokesperson responded on Saturday night, stating their commitment to encouraging individuals to voice their concerns, but refrained from providing additional comments. It is standard practice for the BBC to engage the services of external legal firms to support in-house investigations.

The long-running program, Strictly, has encountered various scandals in recent times, concerning the conduct of both professionals and celebrity participants. Last year, professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima departed from the show following allegations about their treatment of dance partners. Consequently, the BBC introduced new welfare initiatives for Strictly, such as having chaperones in rehearsal rooms and conducting additional training for the cast and crew. In a separate incident, Welsh opera singer Evans made a controversial comment during the show’s live tour launch, leading to his hiatus from a BBC radio show. EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick was also suspended by the BBC after using inappropriate language backstage during Strictly rehearsals
