Five men guilty of murdering a Greek tourist in New Cross, London

Jeremy Britton reported on the tragic murder of a Greek tourist, Antonis Antoniadis, who was followed from a West End club and killed during a robbery. Antoniadis, 26, had come to London for a one-week holiday with friends and was targeted for robbery due to his designer bag. The five men responsible for his death were found guilty of murder and conspiracy to rob in a trial at the Old Bailey.

On the night of July 7, 2024, after leaving a club in central London, Antoniadis and his friends were followed without their knowledge by the perpetrators. The robbers tracked them and eventually attacked Antoniadis as he tried to enter his accommodation. Despite resisting, Antoniadis was overpowered, attacked, and left to bleed to death by the robbers who fled the scene, leaving him fatally wounded.

The court heard that the robbers were after Antoniadis’ designer bag, and when he resisted, they resorted to violence that led to his untimely death. Videos recovered by the police showed the involvement of the defendants, with some claiming they were not present or did not participate in the attack. The trial was described as challenging and complex, considering the lack of CCTV footage and the continuous movement of the defendants’ vehicle throughout the night of the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn from the Metropolitan Police expressed satisfaction in bringing justice to Antoniadis and his loved ones. The sentencing for the convicted individuals has been scheduled for October 3. The tragic death of Antoniadis serves as a reminder of the consequences of senseless acts of violence committed by those with criminal intent
