In April, a retrial is set for two brothers who are accused of assaulting a police officer at Manchester Airport. Mohamed Fahir Amaaz, aged 20, was found guilty of assaulting a member of the public and two female police officers. The incident was captured on film and later circulated on social media platforms. On the other hand, the jury at Liverpool Crown Court, after 10 hours of deliberation, could not reach a verdict on the accusations that Amaaz and his 26-year-old brother, Muhammad Amaad, had assaulted PC Zachary Marsden, causing actual bodily harm.
During a hearing, Judge Neil Flewitt KC scheduled the retrial for 7 April next year, with the trial expected to last between three to four weeks. The trial had to be postponed as the professional commitments of the defense counsel did not allow for an earlier date. A bail application for Amaaz, who was remanded in custody following the verdicts, was delayed until 26 August.
