More than a year ago, a controversial incident at Manchester Airport involving a police officer kicking a man in the head during an arrest caught the attention of the public and sparked protests. The incident, captured in a short clip, led to public outcry and demands for answers about the conduct of PC Zachary Marsden, who was seen kicking Mohammed Fahir Amaaz while he was on the ground.
Subsequently, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and his older brother Muhammad Amaad, 26, faced criminal charges for allegedly assaulting police officers following an examination of additional footage. The brothers have been on trial at Liverpool Crown Court for the past three weeks, with various video clips presented to the jury to reconstruct the events of July 23, 2024, leading to Amaaz’s conviction.
The episode unfolded when the brothers, accompanied by their young nephew, went to Terminal Two to pick up their mother arriving on a flight from Qatar. Their mother reported being racially abused by a passenger, later identified as Abdulkareem Ismaeil, at Starbucks in the airport. A confrontation ensued, captured on CCTV inside the terminal, where Amaaz engaged in physical altercations with Mr Ismaeil.
Law enforcement was alerted to the situation and attempted to apprehend Amaaz at the airport’s car park payment area. The CCTV footage shown during the trial depicted the altercation escalating as Amaaz and his family exited Starbucks, leading to further violence between the brothers and the officers from the airport.
