British brothers, aged 11 and 13, drown off Spanish beach

Tragedy struck at an East coast beach in Spain as two young British brothers, aged 11 and 13, lost their lives after drowning, as confirmed by local authorities. The incident took place at Llarga beach in Salou, Tarragona, on Tuesday evening, leaving the boys deceased. Their father, who also entered the water, was fortunately rescued alive, amidst the tragic turn of events.

Authorities were alerted at 20:47 local time as emergency services rushed to the scene, with seven medical units dispatched and police and fire services in attendance. In a bid to provide support to the grieving family, psychologists were also sent by authorities. José Luis Gargallo, the head of local police, highlighted the unusual sea conditions on that fateful evening despite the beach typically offering safe swimming conditions throughout the year.

The unfortunate incident brings the tally of fatalities on Catalan beaches to 16 since the beginning of the summer season on June 15, surpassing the number recorded during the same timeframe last year. Expressing their condolences, a spokesperson from the UK Foreign Office mentioned their ongoing support for the bereaved family and cooperation with local authorities. The civil protection force emphasized the critical need for extreme caution around beaches, swimming pools, and other bodies of water during the summer season. This tragedy adds to a series of British deaths in Spain this summer, including the recent losses of two young men in separate incidents in Ibiza
